The Knoxville Jr. Ice Bears Winter Development League is designed for motivated players ages 9–13 who want more than traditional recreational hockey. This program blends high-tempo skill development, structured practices, and competitive play into one complete winter experience!

Built for players looking to push their game forward, the league creates a “select hockey” style environment without the excessive travel, cost, or time commitment often associated with full-time travel hockey.

Players will be grouped by age and skill level to ensure a competitive and challenging atmosphere every week.

Too often, families spend thousands on travel, hotels, and weekends away while players receive limited puck touches and inconsistent development opportunities.

Our Winter Development League was built differently.

We believe player development should come first.

Instead of spending your hockey budget primarily on travel expenses, this program focuses those resources directly into:

• Small-area gameplay concepts

Through our partnership and relationship with the Knoxville Ice Bears organization, we continue working to create experiences and opportunities that connect young players directly to the game at a higher level.

As an added bonus to the Winter Development League, players and families may have the opportunity throughout the season to participate in optional select-style tournaments both locally and out of town.

These events are designed to provide additional competitive experiences for players looking for extra gameplay and team exposure beyond regular league play.

Tournament participation will be offered on an à la carte basis, allowing families flexibility throughout the season without requiring a full-time travel commitment.

✅ Requirements to Enter the Winter Development League

To ensure a fun, safe, and developmentally appropriate experience for all participants, players must meet the following criteria:

• Skating Ability: Players must be able to skate independently (forward and stop without assistance)
• Full Hockey Equipment Required (helmet with cage, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, pants, shin guards, skates, stick, and game-appropriate jersey)
• USA Hockey Registration: All participants must have a current USA Hockey membership
• Positive Attitude & Willingness to Learn – this is a development-focused league where teamwork and sportsmanship are emphasized

Note: This is not a Learn-to-Play program. Players should have basic skating and hockey experience before registering.
